Simple question though... if you were fighting a physical battle with killers and you needed to use your own blood as bait for them wouldn't there be a better place to cut than across your palm? I mean you might want to keep your hands in top condition in that circumstance.

You're making it sound like they cut their hands to the bone. They made a slit, (a minimal one at that), to get enough blood flowing. A cut/slit on the hand wouldn't cause an interruption w/ protecting yourself from walkers anyway. You can't bitch slap a zombie, they just give you the "derp" look.
Furthermore, you misspelled, "writing".
