Kiper basically called Cam a reach when the pick was made. Said it was a gamble.

RG3 was projected as a first rounder for a long time, but I don't think he was a lock for the top 2 as someone said (although I could very well be wrong, my memory ain't what it used to be...). That came a little later, as I recall. A lot of us here were very high on him from very early on, but nationally it took longer, even with the heisman. I remember a good bit of "running QB" talk and questioning whether he could read defenses along with how well he could work under center and in the pocket. He gained steam steadily as early 2012 went on, though.

I got the impression at the time that (much like with Smith) there were a lot of people talking about Griffin who really hadn't seen him play very much. Everybody talked (and still talks, in some cases) about his athletic ability, but didn't give him nearly the amount of respect he deserved as a passer.
