Are you SERIOUS???? Did you even watch football before 2005??? THAT would explain a LOT! In any case, they did it from the late '80's to about 2005 or so. When it first came out it was ****ING RIDICULOUS because QB's would just walk up to the LOS and claim they couldn't hear, or they would "try" to bark out signals and walk away pointing to their helmets - usually as time was about to expire on the play clock. Then the refs would access the HOME TEAM a 5 YARD PENALTY! Of course in most cases this would just make the fans LOUDER. I'm not sure, but I believe if it didn't stop, the home team could actually lose a time out. I remember Marty telling the fans to quiet down at ARROWHEAD. John Elway and especially Stan Humphries used to pull that shit all the time. Used to really piss me off.
