1.San Fransisce 49ers-Matt Leinart, QB, Southern California
- It’s rebuilding time in San Fran, so the Niners grab their franchise signal caller #1 overall. With so many needs, the Niners are almost a lock to trade down.
2. Miami Dolphins - Aaron Rodgers, QB, California
- The Dolphins season was ruined by poor QB play and no running game. Rodgers will give them the solid QB that they need to turn things around.
3. Cleveland Browns - D'Brickashaw Ferguson, OT, Virginia
- This fast rising offensive tackle finds himself in Cleveland, where the blocking was horrible this year. He’ll be expected to be a starter from day one.
4. Arizona Cardinals- Antrel Rolle-CB-Miami (FL)
- Rolle lands in Arizona and will be anointed the franchises shut down corner. He has the size/speed/skills we all look for and should be a Pro Bowl player.
5. Tennessee Titans- Derrick Johnson-LB-Texas
- This pick might surprise a few, but the Titans defense is not helping them out this year. Johnson will team up with Keith Bullock and Rocky Calmus to give Tennessee one of the best linebacking cores in the league.
6. Washington Redskins- David Pollack-DE-Georgia
- The Redskins are still looking for an every down defensive end that can give them 10 plus sacks a season. Pollack is a monster off the snap and should give Washington a legit sack threat.
7. Oakland Raiders- Cedric Benson-RB-Texas
- The Raiders offense has been laughable at times this season. With Ronald Curry and Doug Gabriel set at WR next year, Oakland grabs a workhorse back that can carry the load for this rebuilding team.
8. Tampa Bay Buccaneers- Marcus McNeill-OT-Auburn*
- Tampa has been marred by poor line play this season, and with only veterans on this line, things will not be getting better on their own. McNeill gives Tampa a bookend tackle to build their offensive line around.
9. Chicago Bears- Braylon Edwards-WR-Michigan
- The Bears have been burnt by injuries this year, but they have the makings of a very good team. Adding a playmaker like Edwards will give the Bears one more threat on offense. The Bears might grab an offensive tackle here, later in the draft, or in free agency.
10. New Orleans Saints- Mike Williams-WR-USC*
- A surprise pick for some, but the fact that Joe Horn is 32 gives the Saints a reason to grab this exciting receiver. Williams has had a year off of football, but he’s in the best shape of his life and ready to contribute.
11. Houston Texans- Alex Barron-OT-Florida State
- Barron will give Houston the star left tackle they thought they got in the expansion draft with Tony Boselli. Barron’s quick feet and strength will give David Carr time to find Andre Johnson.
12. Detroit Lions- Thomas Davis-S-Georgia*
- Maybe a little early for a safety, but the Lions have few other needs. Davis is a hard-hitting, centerfielder in the mold of Roy Williams. He’ll give the Lions an intimidating force in the secondary.
13. Dallas Cowboys- Justin Miller-CB-Clemson*
- Miller will start opposite Terence Newman and give Dallas a great one-two punch in the secondary. With Roy Williams helping over the top, team’s will find it hard to move the ball against Dallas.
14. San Diego Chargers (NYG)- Marcus Spears-DE-LSU
- Spears fits perfectly in the Chargers 3-4 defense and will line up outside at defensive end. His weight and athleticism give him an advantage over most offensive tackles. He’ll be a star in San Diego.
15. Kansas City Chiefs- Marlin Jackson-CB-Michigan
- The Chiefs will simply grab the best available defender here in hopes of shoring up the league’s worst unit. Jackson has the versatility to play both corner and safety, but his quick recovery speed and bone jarring hits make him an exciting star at corner.
16. St. Louis Rams- Adam “Pac Man” Jones-CB-West Virginia*
- The Show Me State is full of bad defense, so the Rams will look to grab a defender here too. Jones has risen up draft boards with his play this season. He doesn’t have the best height, but makes up for it with his athleticism.
17. Carolina Panthers- Jamaal Brown-OT-Oklahoma
- The Panthers offensive line has been a wreck all season long. Adding Brown to the right side will give Carolina two young studs at offensive tackle and provide them long term talent at an important position.
18. Cincinnati Bengals- Erasmus James-DE-Wisconsin
- James made himself a lot of money with his play this season. This Badger moves ahead of some of the more experienced ends with his pass rushing skills. James will be an early starter in Cincy and will not let people down. His ability to stop the run and get after the QB will impress a lot of people
19. Seattle Seahawks- Carnell Williams-RB-Auburn
- Shaun Alexander has his sights set on Miami this off-season, so the team will be looking to add a starting running back here. Williams is blessed with tremendous vision and balance and is a threat to score every time he gets the ball. He’ll fit nicely in Seattle’s west-coast offense.
20. Minnesota Vikings- Anttaj Hawthorne-DT-Wisconsin
- The impending departure of Chris Hovan leaves an opening in the middle of Minny’s defense. Hawthorne has been as impressive as any defensive tackle this season and will give the Vikings a solid push up the middle.
21. Dallas Cowboys (Buffalo)- Shaun Cody-DT-USC
- Cody might be a ‘tweener to some, but he’ll be able to play tackle in the Cowboys defense. He’s a double threat from the inside and will give Coach Parcells a legit star to anchor his line.
22. Jacksonville Jaguars- Mathias Kiwanuka-DE-Boston College*
- The Jags have been forced to play their defensive tackles at end this season, so we all know they’ll be looking for the top end come their pick. Kiwi will give the Jags a speed rushing end that could have a Jevon Kearse/Terrell Suggs type impact.
23. Denver Broncos- Dan Cody-DE-Oklahoma
- Denver lost Bert Berry to Arizona, and they never thought they would miss him so much. Cody will give the Broncos what they lost in Berry, a pass rushing terror.
24. Green Bay Packers- Heath Miller-TE-Auburn*
- Bubba Franks has been unimpressive and will not be back after his contract expires this season. Miller may have the best hands of anyone in this class and will give Favre and co. a consistent receiver to open up the defense.
25. Baltimore Ravens- Troy Williamson-WR-South Carolina*
- Williamson decided to leave Steve Spurrier and SC for the NFL and Baltimore could not be happier. Williamson might need work on his routes, but in the meantime he’ll give Kyle Boller the deep threat he hasn’t had.
26. New York Jets- Carlos Rogers-CB-Auburn
- Rogers has been rising up our board and could eventually see himself higher than this. He brings a tenacity to the position and with his experience he will be a starter early on for some lucky team.
27. Atlanta Falcons- Max Jean-Gilles-OG-Georgia*
- Mike Vick is this franchise, so keeping him healthy is Atlanta’s #1 priority. Vick has been sacked 40 times this season, something that has to be keeping Jim Mora up at night.
28. San Diego Chargers- Lance Mitchell-LB-Oklahoma
- With their second pick the Chargers find themselves in position to add a middle linebacker for their scheme. Mitchell missed most of the 2003 season with injury, but has been a star in the middle for OU.
29. Indianapolis Colts- Ciatrick Fason-RB-Florida*
- Edgerrin James may or may not be franchised after the season, but Indy cannot afford to keep him around for long. Fason will give Manning and the Colts a replacement if and when Edge should go.
30. New England Patriots- Antonio Perkins-CB-Oklahoma
- New England has gotten by playing WRs and LBs in their secondary this season, so we know they are going to add depth there. Perkins will give them more than depth and has the tools to play a lot and early for the Pats.
31. Philadelphia Eagles- Ronnie Brown-RB-Auburn
- Correll Buckhalter cannot stay healthy and should leave via free agency this off-season. Brian Westbrook needs a big back to keep him fresh and is best when playing as the third down back. Brown will give Philly a back to pound into the line and can even catch very well out of the backfield.
32. Pittsburgh Steelers- Vince Carter-C-Oklahoma
- Jeff Hartings has played well in Pittsburgh, but he is 32 years old and it’s time to groom a new centerpiece for this dominating offensive line
