I don't set out to be contrarian. It just so happens that the majority of people don't appreciate in art what I appreciate. "Fly" is a great example: it is chock-full of the things in which I most love about
Breaking Bad, but it is almost entirely lacking in the things that I'd say most people who watch BB like about BB.
It's why most people don't care about movie reviews anymore. People feel disconnected with critics, and I suppose it is because critics care too much about the area in which they write criticism. It's more than entertainment to critics.
Louie is a perfect example. It doesn't get great ratings. People wish it was funnier, that it was more comedy-driven. But many critics think it's a top 3 show on TV.
They aren't trying to be contrarian. Their tastes no longer match the general public. Both approaches towards tv or film or etc. are totally valid, even if people from one approach hate people who take the other approach.
