Definitely. Ovechkin also came out and said he was going to Sochi regardless of what the NHL said, and I'm sure other players would follow (home ice or not). I don't think there's much downside besides the possibility of injuries, but that risk might actually go down with the larger ice surface (OTOH, more teams seem to be playing a harder checking/North American style these days).
