The writers are walking a fine line between paying off the 'puzzle box' of a narrative, and stretching out the ambiguities until all audience interest is exhausted.

Hopefully a finale spurs them to dole out some payoffs. I've been patient, but I don't relish another entire year of 'geez, I wonder WTF is going on.'

yeah, I think after Lost audiences will only give you so much room with your shows “mystery” until they expect something solved. Doesn’t have to be the whole puzzle solved but it had better be a substantial piece or they move on.
