The game was a blast. Is there anyone in the MLS that is more consistently screwed over by referees than CJ Sapong? He is the Tamba Hali of Sporting. He had three fouls called on him last night: one was the phantom, I'm three feet away from Olave but he is a douche and is jumping like he was murdered; one was two defenders hacked CJ about 7 times as he was running through and he was somehow called for the foul; and the third was he beat someone to a ball going out the endline, and was somehow called for fouling the guy 2 feet behind him.
CJ is borderline undefendable. Olave was gassed. Olave did a great job most of the night, but CJ wore him down, and should have been credited with a goal. Olave is the only defender in the league I would have said could match CJ in physicality...and he can't.
looking forward to the reserve game tomorrow. I don't think sporting could possibly have a worse schedule over the next week though. 2 MLS games and a reserve game. I don't know who they are going to field for the reserve game.
