if they trade the 1st overall pick at best they get the other teams 1st and their 2nd rounder + whatever in the future, which is not better than the pick they gave up for Smith
so no, impossible to recoup that compensation value wise.

A first next year and a 3rd this year could potentially make sense too. All depends on where they're trading from.
