It looks to be about as far from Mass Effect (my favorite game series to date...) as you can get. There's no evidence that there's any story at all, and there appear to be zero cinematics. I've never played minecraft so I can't speak to that reference.

I have watched some gameplay today from an individual who bought the game off someone on eBay last night. It looks pretty much like what I thought it was.

There's no intro. He was dropped straight onto his first planet, right into the gameplay. Which I think is great.

It's not an easy game. At all. Dude had crashed onto a hot planet, and he we was in trouble immediately. There are tutorial pop ups, but the game doesn't hold your hand. It seemed like almost everything he had was broken - suit, ship, multitool - and he had to collect resources to repair. He was literally in danger of dying inside of 5 minutes.

He found a really cool looking alien pineapple creature while randomly digging into the ground. It seemed to both be afraid of him and to want to eat him.

The game in general just looked amazing.
