A great friend of mine at KU was from Ghana. His name is Siaw Yaboah. He went by the nick-name of Kojo, which means "Monday born," in Ghana.
They have several dialects in Ghana and English is/was taught to the privileged. When Kojo came to KU he had to relearn English because he couldn't understand a word we said (and vice versa). He caught on really fast and busted all players in chess. He's now a successful engineer in California. Rock on Kojo!
