They have several dialects in Ghana and English is/was taught to the privileged. When Kojo came to KU he had to relearn the English because he couldn't understand a word we said (and vice versa). At one of my jobs there was a guy from Ghana and a guy from Somalia. The guy from Somalia was probably the most bigoted person I've ever met toward the guy from Ghana. He would call him "ditch digger" and "monkey" right to his face.
And the guy from Ghana would just sort of smile about it and never got mad.
