Not necessarily.
MT makes up lie about her visiting him in Hawaii. Dad hears about it asks why she never met the fam. Oh, she wasn't here very long, was staying w/ friends, didn't have time, we met up at the beach etc and is none the wiser. The quotes I saw were about her vacationing w/ MT in Hawaii not about her attending family dinners, etc. If he has no reason to think son is lying he just repeats what he was told when asked.
It's all conjecture obv. I am just illustrating how something like that could possibly play out.
