But I would encourage you to do a bit more recent research on spanking, not just for the sake of the child but for you the parent as well. The research is out there on how ineffective spanking is as a conditioning tool in parenting. It might generate short term results, but it doesn't make a child more obedient or less likely to break the rules. In fact, spanking is largely counterproductive to those goals.
Just my advice. Not telling you how to be a parent. Just encouraging you to look further on the subject if you haven't already.

Oh absolutely
Both my wife and I have graduate level educations...
We discussed at length all options....before we had kids even...(we waited 7 years to have kids)
We decided that we would do some corporal punishments in a few limited instances, if "the message" wasn't getting through.....
We have probably spanked him maybe 5 times in his life...its not pleasant but I think some lessons 'sink in' more with the fear of pain...
When you have kids, get back to me on how you decided to handle biting, and running out into the street, and doing all sorts of dangerous things......I am all ears and hopefully going to have more kids so I am open to advice from veterans....but no offense If I don't pay much heed to a rookie 8-)
