He was the real deal and not acknowledged as much by my father, earlier on. I had a Johnny Cash greatist hits cassette I used to make him listen to when we'd drive from Blue Springs to Carthage to visit his mom.
Dad didn't like Hank Jr or Johnny Cash - but did like Willie Nelson and Merle and a few others, Charlie Pride. Ugghhh - Nelson was dope though.

JC found a new audience with the hipster crowd before he died... which was cool but I never really understood it. If it lead to any more young people "stumbling upon" his great classics though it was fine with me.
And I love Charlie Pride too.
