To be clear, the Broncos and city of Denver are currently putting together an application for a bid to the Super Bowl in either years 2018 (Super Bowl 52 or LII) , 2019 (LIII) or 2020 (LIV).

The league will decide in about 10 months or so whether Denver is included in the bidding process.

Denver’s chances will initially hinge on how Super Bowl 48 (XLVIII) at the New Jersey New Meadowlands goes next year. But I would think snow or cold or unseasonably warm, the league would strongly consider Denver because of its vibrant downtown and relatively rabid sports fan base. Weather be darned.

I’ve been to the last seven Super Bowls, eight overall (my first was John Elway’s last game). It rained buckets in Miami while Peyton Manning won his Super Bowl with the Indianapolis Colts in 2007. There were heavy snowstorms/icestorms during the week leading up to the Super Bowl in Detroit in 2006 and Dallas in 2010. Detroit had a massive cab problem. Couldn’t get a cab. Dallas had a massive transportation shutdown. It didn’t even clear the sidewalks.

And then it was beautiful last year in Indianapolis.

I’m no Kathy Sabine but I’m forecasting a decent chance of single-digit temperatures for the first week of February, 2018.
