If a 9 game conference schedule can be used as a carrot for ESPN, it will be used. The idea has been floated on a few SEC sites that are connected in the conference, particularly Mr. SEC. More SEC games = more money. It isn't difficult to understand.
You gotta balance that out with the loss of a home game every other year. More conference games does not = only more money, its got to net out ahead after losing tickets, concessions, etc from one fewer game every couple years.

more conference games also makes it more difficult to maintain conference's strength of schedule, which could trump anything else. A conference SOS becomes rated higher than other conferences only through how they do in non-conference games. If you have few non-conference games, you've got a smaller margin of error for the Kentucky's and Vandy's of the world.
