Two reasons:
1) it's been PROVEN that your only chance to beat The Chiefs is to have an elite QB. If you don't have one, you better try anything to get one, and-
2) the 5th year cost control. If said QB ends up not being elite, at least they're cheap while you spend your cap money elsewhere on the roster.
