A more accurate approximate trade would be something like Wainwright and Kelly.

That's essentially what the Rays just gave up here. They gave up an established veteran with #1 ability and a playoff pedigree, plus a strong-armed reliever who's stuff profiles better for relief than it does the rotation.

So would you give up WW and Kelly for Myers? As a fan, I wouldn't. Waino is my favorite Cardinal so I couldn't make myself do it.

But if I remove my bias and look at it from a pure baseball perspective? Yeah, I think I make the Wainwright and Kelly for Myers deal.

The deal is stupid more for where the Royals are in the competitive cycle than it is for what they gave up. If it's the Angles, Yankees, Dodgers, Giants...hell, even the Cards that make a deal like this, they don't get grief for it (in fact, the Cards did make this deal when they traded for Mulder and most pundits liked it at the time...until it kicked us in the ass).

BUt the Royals aren't there yet and aren't going to spend the money needed to get there.
