My assumption has always been that there is lag in the connection, and thus you think you shoot somebody before being stabbed, but that isn't really the case. There are times I stab a person and wonder why the **** they didn't see me or shoot me, guessing that is the same thing.

Yes, there is lag in the connection. No dedicated servers and no way to actually pick which game to connect to kind of cement that fact. When you first hit join game type, it will look for 50ms games..... then 100ms..... Games with 4 bars are noticeably better in the hit detection department.
