The curve is harder to learn and control, especially if you have a less-than-typical arm slot.
For a guy like Sale, who throws practically sidearm, throwing a consistently controllable strike from that arm angle with the curve is much more difficult.
Some guys are just better suited to throwing a slider than a curve. Should be about the individual, not the the model.
