I don't think it is that ironic. As I said before, chances are quite good that he grew up in an abusive environment or one wth an absent father. He takes steps as a young man to try to be different. On paper, it sounds plausible. Be there to provide and care for and love. Maybe help others also in this situation. In practice? The practice is very difficult. Possibly fueling feelings of insecurity, jealousy, and inadequacy. Which manifests into rage or possibly substance abuse. JMO and surmise.
