I do agree with the other person who said that it's sometimes hard to know when Walt is being just crazy and when he's crazy like a fox. This character trait, though, has always been a part of him. Think back to his insane ass ramming of the two thugs with the Aztec just as Jesse was about to try to kill them.

This is probably the only time I see Walter doing something just for revenge and with no real, logical benefits (i.e., protecting himself).
The time Walt ran over the two thugs he did it because he wanted Jesse's help in cooking. This time, however, the kill was pure crazy and it signals the shift in Walt's character.
