Hank Pym is a fairly dark character in the comics, with a lot of personal demons. I'm thinking that by casting Paul Rudd, it's a sign that they're going to try to inject a little levity into him, so that he might even smile once or twice. The latest is that the original drafts were more in the genre of "heist" type films, which would be a different tone than the other Marvel films.
Edgar Wright is "Shaun of the Dead", so I expect it to be off-center in nature.
