My tin foil hat theory is that the 49ers upon seeing Geno do his thing at the combine, floated this bs out to try to drum up more interest for their boy Smith. If Reid is now sold on Geno it really hurts Alex Smiths stock as I'd imagine only Buffalo and Arizona would be left as trade partners for his services. Less competition equals lower compensation the niners stand to get in return for Smith.
