Started working on this as of 6/10 and began at 317:
1st goal - 270 by my birthday which is in 4 weeks. (I'm on track!!!)
2nd goal - 245 by the end of the year
3rd goal - 220 by March 2013
4th goal - 205 by June 2013 (begin weight training)
5th goal - 215 (+10lb muscle) by September 2013
6th goal - 225 (+10lb muscle) by end of 2013
7th goal - 235 (+10lb muscle) by May 2014

There may be some mental benefit for you in separating your weight loss phase from your weight training phase, but there isn't any physiological. You can lift weights the entire time you're losing as well and likely accelerate that weight loss as well as make gains in your strength and overall fitness as you lose.
