The best shot for any team to be competitive deep into the playoffs is to develop a franchise QB who is capable of putting up a lot of points in the playoffs, as opposed to a game manager or winning with defense. That's how the game is played these days, and that much should be pretty obvious. Of course it's not the only way, and if you have a good enough defense, you can win with a good game manager.

The Packers have drafted more QBs in the first 3 rounds than any other team in the past 20 years and have only needed two of them. The Chiefs have drafted one in that time (in the 3rd round) and have won 3 playoff games in 40 years.

It's not a black and white argument and at the end of the post season I doubt anyone cares about anything except for the wins... but, there's overwhelming evidence to suggest that the retread game manager strategy doesn't work.
