Thats not a Chiefs fan mentality, it just seems like a bad year for Qbs, draft and FA wise.
The thing is, you're omitting a 3rd, and really most probable, outcome.

Alex Smith is a STARTER, he's not a backup. If he's going to come here, he's going to START.

You're right, he's not Brees or Brady. He's QB purgatory.
