When the job market in my field got soft in the KC area I had to move to get a new position with a good company.
I landed a very good job in South Carolina and am happy to have made the move a few years back. Funny thing is, I just accepted a position with another company in Charlotte, NC that is a step up.
I would say that unless you are dead set on staying in the KC area, expand you search to the surrounding states. Or even look coastal like I did.
