If I remember correctly they were in the process of transferring everything and everyone off of the Galactica last week. Now remember - the only way into the Cylon colony was a one-way trap and all guns would be aimed at the only point of entry. So if I was Adama I would send in the empty Galactica first ; the Cylons would blow the living crap out of it; and while they were busy celebrating their "victory" I would jump in with the Cylon ship they are currently on and reek havoc on the evil tosters. At least that's the way I'd do it.
