Maybe it's not the norm, but it's the norm in the few places I've managed. None being local, but corporate or franchised. But that business sucks and am glad to be doing something else. Your tipshare is different. It was an expectation for servers to pay some cash. What we're talking about is 1.5-3.5% (Yeah, it was three point ****ing five!) that comes out of your cash and goes into the company drawers at the end of the night. They then distribute that money fairly (HA!) to the employees they're paying $4.50 an hour.
