Yeah that is the bummer with all these Chinese android boxes. Matricom pretty much buys them in bulk, slaps a sticker on them, does their crappy firmware and expects the community to patch it to make it work. Hardware failures are common when a company has no real oversight at the factory. (which I can attest to.)
Honestly, if I were to recommend a XBMC box it would be a NUC when it is on sale, some ram and and USB and run OpenElec. Probably the cheapest, bug free experience you can have with XBMC right now. A patched version for the Ouya is a close second.
