And they rewrote the script to insert jokes making fun of internet critics 'women shouldn't bust ghosts? what a loser!!'
They've been aggressively marketing it as 'it's like that movie everyone loves, but with girl power!!'
And I would dispute the characterization of 'a lot of hate, just for casting women.' There's been more eyerolling than hate. The overwhelming majority of it ramped up after the trailer. And it only continues to build because the cast and crew are actively antagonizing nayayers.
