In the city, you have competition and can choose to go to one of the cheaper stations. The sheer number of stations also keep the price under control. What I have a problem with is when a handful of local business owners get together and artificially inflate the price of an indispensable product that we have no reasonable way to get elsewhere and all we can do is bend over and take it.
The only reason I brought up Republic is because it is a town in a similar situation (out in the boonies), yet hasn't seen the same price fixing. It was for comparison only. I know the 15 cents is only a couple of bucks per fillup but it's the principle of the thing.
