What's crazy is how similar acquiring Bedard/Burnett was to acquiring Chen/Sanchez.
Bedard vs. Chen: To me, this is a wash. Bedard's 4.32 ERA and 1.45 WHIP in the NL are not impressive (and project to numbers no better than Chen's in the AL this year).
Burnett vs. Sanchez: Before the season started, a very similar thing. Both guys with great past success who have struggled recently. Sanchez was younger and cheaper, and had been really good more recently. The Royals had Burnett's old pitching coach on the staff, and apparently still weren't interested in him.
Of course, since this is the Royals, the breaks ended up working out exactly against the Royals.
