Lots of people have rooted for Walter... opinions may have evolved but he's still got supporters. Hanks flaws are judging drug dealers as low life's and putting them away and not caring about them at a human level. Big deal, if your selling/manufacturing meth you're destroying people and the ones who love them. Why would people root for Jesse? He got his girlfriend back on the needle and she died. He's a loser, ignorant and foolish. He'd be dead if not for his Machiavellian partner.
There are no perfect people but Hank is wearing the white hat here even turning down his wife's plea to fabricate his statement after he whipped Jesses ass.
