My band opened for her in '83 at the Surf Ballroom in Clear lake IA. Her playing there was a big deal for the town (she was pretty big at the time with 'I Love Rock & Roll' just out); the mayor was there to shake her hand as she got off the tour bus. He reached out his hand, said 'Welcome to Clear Lake, Joan'; she simply stared at his hand for a few seconds, then just spit a lugie on the ground before walking into the ballroom. Classy.
