It's denial. People want to maintain hope that we aren't just replaying the same movie again a d genuinely want to believe in this regime.
The compensation for Alex was atrocious, but people let it "grow on them" and are now ok with it. They know Albert is a good, solid left tackle...but now that they see the writing on the wall that he is gone, they want to tear him down so it seems it's not as big of a loss.
