With rumors that Heupel might be interested in moving onto a head coaching gig at a small school (I believe South Alabama is the rumor du jour), maybe they're trying to funnel more money into assistants as well as part of Odom's extension so he can hold onto Heupel.

I'd probably wait one more year but it isn't uncommon for power 5 head coaches to get another year tacked on earlier in their deal so that they're always sitting with a 'full class' left on their deal. It can't hurt in recruiting, especially in the cuthroat SEC where everyone negatively recruits the hell out of everyone else.

No doubt you are correct. I am very much for giving Odom a raise, and Josh a large raise and extension. Large amounts, as you know, need to be spent on defensive coaching upgrades and defensive talent upgrades . We know how the game works. Money needs to made available in whatever fashion) to get more defensive on field talent to CoMo.
