But let's be real here...McD's AA are the best of the best HS coming out (most of the time). Many of them go on to play pro ball. Of course some don't pan out.

A quick look at MCDAA's from years past show that they aren't necessarily the "best of the best". It's not like they are the consensus top 20 players in the country, some even get in because of the school they choose.... *cough*Wear brothers*cough*.
Sure, a lot of them are great players, or go on to be great players. But even the great MCDAA's struggle as freshman.
Let's start with this - before his first game at KU, what did you expect out of a freshman Ellis?
