To be a good defender, you have to want to play defense. This team wants to play offense, but what they aren't getting is that with the length, athleticism, and quickness they have, they can not only be a really good defensive team, but it will lead to more offense.
These guys are trying to strip the ball out so they can run the other way and throw down dunks. Guys at this level are too strong with the ball and that's way too lazy and it's leading to fouls. You can't slap your hand down while trying to run the other direction in hopes that the ball will come your way.
Self has to get them to want to be a good defensive team. The youth is showing. He's never had this amount of youth on his team, even with his, "older players."
Tarik Black isn't doing much to help. He needs to stay on the court because his physical presence is really important, but he is one of the worst at fouling.
These guys know how good they can be, so they forget to actually play the game. Self needs to slow them down and focus more on the basics. They are in a tough stretch right now. A win against Florida would be huge for multiple reasons, but if there is a team Kansas has ever had that losses are good for in terms of the later in the year, it's this one.
They will learn so much more from a loss than they will a win. You take things away from a win in the short term. For the sake of the season and the NCAA tournament, the few losses they rack up will be important in understanding how they have to play.
The biggest concern is just the overall toughness of this team.
