If you have ruled out asthma thats good but Albuterol is helpful with multiple breathing issues. The coughing without narrowing of the airways could be some kind of allergin setting off the cilia in the throat. Albuterol could help that. It won't hurt. It really has no bad side effects. But like others have said, doctors are reluctant to prescribe it.

Sounds like your was much more than just coughing though if I understand correctly. He breathes perfectly fine. We just can't seem to control the coughing. He has brief periods throughout the day where he doesn't cough at all. At night though, and in the mornings, he is just non stop and nothing seems to help. it sounds horrible. Yet, as soon as he falls asleep, he breathes perfectly normal.
