Besler out for a few weeks with an appendix. Bummer.

Matt Besler woke up with intense pain in his side around 2 a.m. Friday morning. He thought it was the stomach flu.
But when that pain hadn’t subsided three hours later, Besler, a Sporting Kansas City central defender, drove himself to the University of Kansas Hospital, where he’d have surgery a few hours later for an appendicitis.
“It didn’t burst, which I have heard is the worst pain ever, but it was probably an eight or nine out of 10,” Besler said of the agony he felt. “The thing that was most annoying is that it was so constant.”
Besler, 25, is expected to miss at least two weeks.
“It’s the same injury and surgery that (Chiefs quarterback) Matt Cassel had, so I hope I recover as quickly as he did,” Besler said.
Besler, an MLS All-Star and Blue Valley West graduate, played all 90 minutes Tuesday in a 2-0 victory against the Colorado Rapids, which advanced Sporting KC to the quarterfinals in the 99th Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.
He has played all but two minutes — the last two in a 2-1 loss May 12 at Chicago — in MLS matches this season.
Sporting KC, 8-3-1, is off for a week as World Cup qualifying takes place, but the club resumes MLS games June 16 at home against Toronto FC.
Besler hasn’t officially been ruled out but is expected to miss that match and also might be unavailable for Sporting KC’s next road trip, a bicoastal swing with games June 20 in Seattle and June 23 in Philadelphia. Sporting’s quarterfinal Open Cup is June 26 against the Dayton Dutch Lions.
“I hope it’s less than (two weeks), but I have no idea really,” Besler said. “There’s no way I can really put a day on it. It’s going to kill me I have to miss any games.”
