Honestly, the magic aspect fits within the willing suspension of disbelief because that's part of this world. That's OK. Characters get beat up, maimed, killed, etc. in these stories through means that would do the same to you or me... and that's fine too, because they've set that as an expectation in this world. But they don't get a scratch from a 200-foot fall. It's an inconsistency that sticks in my craw and breaks the rules they've set up. Willing suspension of disbelief only works if you set the rules at the beginning and play by those rules throughout.
