Also, the complete nihilism of nearly every character makes it hard to root for anyone. When everyone is an irredeemable asshole, how do you come to care who wins?
That's the beauty of this, and the very end of the finale explained (the adviser) why he did it in the beginning of his regime in comparison to now.
