MU-KU - Tale of the Tape - LONG

Ok. I don't post here much, but I'm here reading everyday. I'm bored as hell tonight and I'm f'ing sick of all of the love that KU is getting. So I set out to expose what you and I already know. Their schedule is PATHETIC and any "balance" that they have is gained through beating up on punching bags. I didn't even realize that they played 4 straight cupcakes at home to start. I think this shows each teams body of work and what they have accomplished on the field. Now, Kansas is a good team, there is no doubting that anymore. They don't beat themselves and we will have to play our absolute best game next Saturday to beat them. We will have our hands full stopping that Offense. That said, here is the numbers breakdown for each game. I just looked at points and yards for/against, and turnover margin. I'll break each teams games down into Gimme's and "big games". KU's and MU's stats will be listed first. You will also notice we've played a few more "big ones". Ole Miss being a big game could be argued, but I feel anytime you go on the road in the SEC in week 2 it's big. Anyways....KU first.

Now, margin of victory against their cupcakes is 52.83 - 6.6 in points. 537.3 - 178.83 in yards. And they are +10 in turnovers. In their "big games" it is still good but much lower. 37.4 - 23.2 in points, 455.6 397.8 in yards. And they are +11 turnover margin. These stats are a bit skewed b/c of the Nebraska beatdown. It's apparant to me that they have struggled to win in every other one of thier "big ones". Now, a win is a win and they certainly have done that. Also, it made me feel dirty looking through all of their box scores. I will promptly take a shower after this.

On to Mizzou. We struggled a bit more against our gimmes. 44 - 23 in points, 522 - 386 in yards and -1 in turnover margin. We are probably lucky we didn't lose one of these. In the big games Mizzou has showed thier stripes so to speak. 41.8 - 23 in points, 500.3 - 377.5 in yards. And +11 in turnover margin.

Summary? KU gets alot of attention for that NEB game. They kicked their ass and never let up. That is thier signature win for sure. However, I don't understand how everyone just writes off thier first 4 games against JV teams. Also, how can all of thier close victories not be taken into account? It baffles the mind.

I have alot more confidence after doing this breakdown. I think it is pretty clear that MU gets up for the big ones. If it weren't for that little letdown in Norman we'd be number 1 in the nation right now. We've played everyone they have and beat them worse, outside of ISU. We dominated NU much more thoroughly as well. Our guys should rest easy knowing that they are battle tested. KU might come out tight after a whole week of everyone sucking them off and basically handing them this victory already. Can we play it already?
