I don't see the kid as a danger. His own compadres left him for dead. They showed what little loyalty they had and I'm sure his is gone as well. Meanwhile, Rick and crew saved him from a certain death, and while they nurse him back to health, he'll certainly take to their kind, selfless ways.
Sounds to me like you and Shane belong in the group that left the kid behind in the first place.
