Take it for what it's worth but this is what I was told tonight:
Everything has been approved by the city and AEG has a green light to build the stadium, renovate the LA Convention Center and so on. The NFL LOVES the plan. Anschutz backed off his demand of 51% ownership to 49% and has offered to purchase the Chargers on several occasions. Each time, the Spanos family has rejected the pursuit.
Surprisingly, the firing of Leiweke was meant to hasten a deal for another NFL team, not put up a blockade. I didn't get the particulars but apparently Anschutz felt like Leiweke was the reason it wasn't happening and fired him.
Also, according to my friend, the NFL has no interest whatsoever in the City of Industry. It's all about DTLA, AEG and finding an owner that's willing to give up 49%, at minimum, in the team itself.
And *maybe* (wink, wink) Jerry Jones' recent comments were alluding to the fact that they've found a team willing to do so.
And once again, please take it FWIW. Rumors are always rumors until proven as fact.
