That's like asking a group of people what kind of beer is good, you're going to get a lot a different answers. If you are going to stick to that 1K range, I would look at a Colt myself. I would start with a quality gun and throw on what you want one item at a time, scope etc. I would make sure to get one that will shoot .223 AND 5.56 ammo.
.223 / 5.56 ammo has come back and is easy to find right now at a reasonable price, as well as extra mags. With that being said, one school/mall/movie
theater shooting could change all that again and fast. WHEN the next crazy douche shoots something up the media whores will run their mouth to pimp up their ratings. They will claim all guns that go bang are evil, that everyone that has an AR or and AK is the Devil and just loves to kill small children! Liberal
politicians also like to ride the "guns are evil" bandwagon after a shooting. With that being said, stock up on ammo and mags right now, while they are reasonable.
