Yeah, in some sense, pot was a gateway drug for me. I'd been told all these ridiculous falsehoods and exaggerations about marijuana as a child growing up in the "Just Say No" decade. When I started investigating on my own, I found out a lot of that stuff was bullshit. It then led to me doubting what I'd been told about other drugs as well (some of which was actually legitimate).
There's also the idea of being the exception. Sure, you see that happen with some people, but those are probably worse case scenarios.. no one ever thinks it's going to happen to them.
